Major Announcement from Matt

Greetings friends,

I hope this message finds you well. March is just around the corner. And while I wish I could say spring is in the air…well, that would just be a lie. But despite this seemingly endless winter, life goes on doesn’t it? We all find ourselves in seasons that feel like forever, and some that don’t last long enough. For me, the last three and a half years with Attaboy have been some of the best of my life. I reflect daily on God’s goodness when we weren’t sure what was next. Time and time again, He has shown Himself to be more than worthy of our trust. They’ve also been some of the most challenging years for me personally. Like anything worth fighting for in life, the people and things we love take work and sacrifice. A lot has happened in the last year though that has caused me to think long and hard about where God’s leading me to apply that energy. Over time, it’s become clearer to my wife and I that this incredible journey with Attaboy is drawing to a close. As of March 16, my time with the band will officially be over. It’s hard to even type these words because it forces me to deal with reality. To be honest, making this decision has felt a lot like jumping off a cliff into the ocean. Sometimes you don’t know if it’s the right choice or not until you jump.

You guys, there are not enough words in the English language to express how grateful I am for the love and support you have shown us over the years. You’ve sung along with us. You’ve traveled across state lines. You’ve stayed up late to talk with us after shows. I’m so grateful to have shared in this chapter of my life with all of you. Put simply, this band exists to reach others with the gospel of Jesus Christ. To be able to share with you through music what God has done in our lives and dream about what he wants to do in yours has been such a huge privilege.

So maybe you’re wondering what’s next for the band? Don’t you worry. Attaboy plans on continuing to move forward, full steam ahead. A good friend of ours, Ryan Payne, will be stepping in as the new lead singer. Let’s face it. Transitions can be weird. You’ve got to get to know someone all over again. But I can’t stress enough how confident I am in Ryan and his ability to steer the ship in a way that will honor God. Not only is he an incredibly gifted singer and musician, but his heart for people is HUGE. So while I’m sad to be moving on, rest assured that Attaboy has no intentions of skipping a beat (pun intended).

I’m so thankful for the chance to have sung songs of hope with you all. It’s something I’ll never take for granted. My encouragement to you is to keep singing. Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my experience with the band, it’s that no matter how different our stories may be, we’re all in need of a savior. You might’ve heard it said that the ground is level at the foot of the cross. No matter who you are or where you’re from or what you’ve done, Jesus is relentlessly inviting you into a relationship with himself and a deeper understanding of his love. It’s the only place that we find who we were made to be. If you hear nothing else in our music, hear that.

God bless,
Matt Siewert

Introducing Ryan

Hey everyone!

Ryan Payne here. I’m so very excited to join Attaboy in the good work they’re doing, and I can’t wait to meet the fans who have come to love the band!

To be honest, when I first considered being a part of Attaboy, I was pretty set on not joining.  It’s not that I had something against them or doing music full-time, I just thought the season of pursuing music was over for me.  But as I continued to ponder, pray about it and listen to the vision being set by the band, the spark of interest inside me grew more and more.  So much so, in fact, that despite the fear of the unknown and the daunting task of moving quickly after I return from a job overseas, it has become clear to me that this is the direction God has been leading (or maybe pushing me) for some time now.

It’s my hope and prayer that as the ministry of Attaboy continues, we would see more and more people deeply impacted by the love of Christ.

See you on the road!
Ryan Payne

From Jeff

Hey friends,

When we started the band over nine years ago, I would’ve never imagined for a moment that God would allow this musical journey to be as elaborate as it has been. As Matt and I talked over the past year about his future, I couldn’t help but think that this was God’s way of wrapping things up for Attaboy. But without knowing for sure, I decided to entertain the crazy idea of finding another lead singer for the band.

Clearly, God knows what is best for the future of the band, and so with that in mind, it is so encouraging to not only have Ryan coming on board, but also to know how strongly we share in the vision for the band’s future. We’ll be sure to update you all on that very soon, but in the meantime, I thank you in advance for sticking with us through yet another transition. It has become clear that God’s work through Attaboy is not yet finished, and it goes well beyond the efforts of any individual person.

We will miss Matt incredibly and will continue to believe in whatever his future holds. And we hope you’ll have the opportunity to come meet Ryan in person in the very near future!

Your friend,
Jeff Edgel

Matt, I'm not going to lie, I will miss you as a part of Attaboy. I've told my wife, and Matt Smith countless times how I loved watching you guys play after you joined because your heart for God and for people was infectious along with Jeff, and Chris. Life does go on, and it takes a lot of strength to move on sometimes, but walking in Gods' will is sometimes not so simple or easy. Bless you for walking and following in the path of Gods' will. I can't wait to see what Ryan brings to the table. Love you guys! Blake.

I just saw Attaboy perform at our church in Michigan yesterday, and they were AMAZING! Maybe even more than that. I don't know if I can even really explain how fun it was. It definitely made it a night to remember. Matt, I miss seeing you when you guys came to SpringHill for the teen winter retreat a couple of years ago, but Ryan, you are one of the coolest, friendliest, and even more so, down to earth guys I know. I am so blessed that I got to meet you, know you, and share a little bit of my story with you. This band definitely made it a moment in history for our church, and we can't thank you enough. I hope that I will someday get to see you guys soon. God bless you in all you do and for your safe travels everywhere you go. Believe me when I say that you will be missed and kept in our memories forever. Thanks again for making this a memorable night and we all love you very much!
